“Цар Стангра sound like they worship the old gods. I don't speak Bulgarian, but this band delivers enough of their intention through tone and inflection that it really doesn't matter”

Цар Стангра (Tsar Stangra) is a Bulgarian pagan black/folk metal project based in Quebec City, Canada, forging a powerful fusion of extreme metal and Bulgarian ancestral tradition.
Founded in 2007 as a solo vision, the project evolved into a full band in 2014, driven by a clear artistic mission: to channel the spirit, mythology, and cultural depth of Bulgaria through immersive and ritualistic black metal.
Early releases in 2015 quickly gained attention within the underground, establishing Tsar Stangra as a distinctive voice in the pagan black metal scene. The debut album, Небесният ковач (The Heavenly Blacksmith), recorded in 2016, was met with strong reactions for its raw intensity and authentic cultural identity. The band brought this energy to the stage, performing at major Canadian events such as Messe des Morts and Skogen Fest, and sharing the stage with Arkona.
After a period of transformation, Tsar Stangra re-emerged with renewed force, culminating in its second full-length album, Химните на разрушените светове (Hymns of the Broken Worlds), set for release on July 1, 2026 — a date symbolically aligned with the celebration of July Morning, freedom, and Rock And Roll.
Marking a bold evolution, the album expands beyond the raw foundations of the debut into a richer and more atmospheric sound. Layered orchestrations, traditional instruments such as tambura, and a range of collaborations shape a work that balances deep-rooted Balkan identity with broader musical influences, creating a striking contrast between heritage and transformation.
With this release, Tsar Stangra closes a defining chapter and enters a new era, continuing its path as a new force bridging Bulgarian tradition and the extremity of black metal.
